The council voted in favor of a $30,000 contract with Pyrotechnico to organize the Fourth of July fireworks show. The location for the event has been a subject of discussion, with council member Steve Farrow suggesting the possibility of bringing the show back to James Brown Park once the John Davis Recreation Center renovations are completed.
Caitlin Sharpe, the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, mentioned that shooting the fireworks at the rec department might not be permissible due to fire department regulations. However, she suggested the North Georgia Agricultural Fairgrounds as a potential alternative location.
In addition to the fireworks show, the City Council addressed various other matters. The tennis courts at Dalton High School will be transferred to Dalton Public Schools, as they are primarily used by the school system. The council also approved agreements related to information technology and security, including contracts with BION Security, InterDev, Threatlocker, and The Arbitrage Group. Furthermore, three inactive boards—the Animal Control Board, the Building Code Appeals Board, and the Grievance Committee—will be dissolved as part of the city’s efforts to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
